AI challenges concepts of authorship and of infringement. This lecture will query whether international copyright principles and US copyright law should welcome AI-generated outputs as original works of authorship. The lecture will also address recent US controversies in which authors have claimed that the massive inputting of their works into AI systems infringes their copyrights, and the AI platforms have asserted the defense of fair use.
